Agricultural and Forestry Waste Transformed into Clean Energy! Biomass Pellet Project Illuminates the Path to Green Prosperity in Dashuigou Township, Lüchun

In the golden autumn, stepping into Dashuigou Township of Lichun County in the Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Honghe, a brand-new steel-structured factory building comes into view, with machines roaring inside. Once discarded fir wood branches and wood processing scraps undergo multiple processes—such as crushing, pressing, and cooling—on the pellet production line, transforming into compact, smooth cylindrical biomass pellets. From “a piece of waste wood” to “a fuel grain,” this place is witnessing a green transformation that redefines the value of agricultural and forestry “waste.”.

It features small size, convenient storage and transportation, and high combustion efficiency. The residual ash after combustion has extremely low carbon content, combining excellent environmental benefits with economic value, making it a high-quality clean energy source for developing a circular economy.
Leveraging its abundant mountain and forest resources, Dashuigou Township invested 6.5 million yuan to build a timber processing plant, with the main project now nearly completed and entering trial operation. Upon full production, the facility will cover over 80,000 mu of fir trees, integrating timber processing with biofuel pellet production. It will process 20,000 cubic meters of timber annually and produce 30,000 tons of pellets, with an estimated output value exceeding 60 million yuan. This will increase farmers’ annual income by over 2,200 yuan per capita. “The project team is upgrading processing equipment and rigorously ensuring product quality while leveraging local forestry resources. As the enterprise grows steadily, it also creates jobs for surrounding residents, transforming ecological resource advantages into industrial strengths to promote shared prosperity,” said the project leader.

During the construction phase of the timber processing plant, over 5,000 local residents have been employed, with more than 1 million yuan in labor wages disbursed. The enterprise has also hired 12 long-term workers from disadvantaged families, achieving an average monthly income of over 6,000 yuan per person, enabling stable employment close to home. The industrial benefits generated by the project have enhanced village collective economies, with five villages in the area receiving annual land rental income of 30,000 yuan each, along with fixed dividends, creating a win-win scenario for corporate growth, village collective economic expansion, and household income increases. “Now I can work right at home, with a stable monthly salary, while also taking care of my elderly and children. It feels really good!” remarked a factory worker.
