As the poetic picture of straw turning into gold and coal yards turning into green factories unfolds slowly, Xintian Village in Changning City has achieved a collective economic breakthrough of millions, writing a green chapter of rural revitalization in the new era with tangible ecological and economic accounts.

Entering Xintian Village, Pengtang Township, Changning, the neat village road and white walls and black tiles complement each other, and the lush tobacco fields are full of vitality. The tobacco farmers are focused on cutting the tobacco leaves, with their eyes filled with the hope of a bountiful harvest. Who would have thought that two years ago, the development of characteristic industries here came to a halt, and the collective economic income of the village was less than 400000 yuan. Tobacco farmer Xia Min said that in the past, using coal for tobacco not only wasted straw, but also made it difficult to control the temperature and caused environmental pollution. It was like a “stumbling block” that firmly hindered the development of industries in the village.

Faced with the dilemma, the two committees of Xintian Village found during their investigation and in-depth research that the annual biomass waste of over 3000 tons in the surrounding area is the “golden key” to solving the dilemma. In 2023, the village introduced a biomass pellet production line, renovated the old coal yard site, and established a pellet factory with straw recycling and biomass pellet manufacturing as its core business. It provides a large amount of high-quality fuel to the market, reduces the cost of baking tobacco leaves, and revitalizes the village’s collective assets, expanding channels for income growth. After processing, the combustion efficiency of biomass pellet fuel is more than twice that of coal balls, and the cost can be reduced by 45%. With this help, our village’s 20 biomass tobacco houses can save about 90000 yuan in costs for the village collective every year, “said Liu Pulong, Secretary of the Xintian Village Party Branch.
